Apple Watch update paused

My Apple Watch update is paused and says will resume when connected to WiFi, but I’m already connected to WiFi. What do I need to do?

Hi there, TWright0501,

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities. I understand that you're having trouble installing the watchOS 6 update. I'd be happy to help!

Based on what you've described, I'd recommend using the steps outlined in the "If you need help updating" section of Update your Apple Watch - Apple Support, as outlined below:

"Try these steps:

  1. Make sure that your Apple Watch connects to its charger
  2. Restart your Apple Watch. Press and hold the side button until you see Power Off, then drag the slider. To turn your watch on again, press and hold the side button.
  3. Restart your paired iPhone. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears, then drag the slider. To turn your iPhone on again, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button.
  4. Try to start the update again.

If the update won't start, open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, tap General > Usage > Software Update, then delete the update file. After you delete the file, try to download and install watchOS again."

Best!

Hi Michelle,

Thanks for the write up on the ways to update the Apple Watch with the update paused. I had the Apple watch update 6.1 update paused due to an internet - Wifi connection dropping off. The explanation is crisp & absolutely very very useful.

Thanks for the support. I advice other Apple Watch Users with a similar glitch to follow the technical assistance as written by Michelle.

Best Wishes
