Update: I don't think its possible, as its not even a app package.
This is in downloading. (Attached)
its in root (dir) hidden folder..
The .app in Applications is only be a remains it remains at small size even while installing, so, it installs to temp dir.. in root of HD.
Not possible
Easier said than done...
Once downloaded, you only have 10 seconds before it automatically restarts... I don't think that would be enough time unless i'm prepared first.. Besides, copying to USB itself would probably take more than 10 seconds anyway
I think Apple does what it does with all installers. Delete after its finished.
The only difference i can see, is it only downloads small 22MB file initially, then the installer takes care of downloading the rest vs downloading full from the app store to begin with..
Personally, no idea why Mac OS High sierra is only a "stub"" when all others are full blown on the App Store...
You downloaded the "stub" installer and you need to authenticate to download the full installer. It requires the Helper tool.
This would mean i can't use it to clean install ?
Once you download the full installer you should be able to use it. Just be sure to stop it after the download and copy it off to a usb stick or whatever you will use to do a clean install.
Crazy deal on the stubs thing, eh?
The way that I have found that is consistently able to download full installers is to run installinstallmacos.py as per
