Erase HD on Mac Air

I am trying to erase hard drive but keep getting operation failed message. I type in name, select format, and scheme.

Hi,

If you want to format the internal SSD of MacBook Air, you need to start up from Recovery mode.

erase HD In disk utility was trying to erase an external HD in order to format it for mac but accidentally pressed erase on the mac hard drive instead. All my data is still there and I can still use all software but the hard drive no longer appears on finder. Advice on how to fix it please? Erasing MAC HD I’ve recently deleted my mac hd and did not reinstall the OS. When I tried to restart, it didn’t open so I had to go to the recovery mode to reinstall the OS. Every time I try to do that, it doesn’t show any options of which hard drive I want to use. I cannot push through and I’m stuck. I’ve also tried restoring from time machine and same, no hard drive is showing. Hope someone can help thank you so much
