IOS13 Mail outlook.com duplicate sent items

This has bugged me with MacOS Mail for years, and with iOS13 Mail I now have the problem on the iphone (6s)

I have 4 email accoonts, one icloud account (no problems) and 3 Outlook.com accounts. All 3 now store duplicate sent items in the app.

They are not stored on the server sent folder, and only one copy is received by the recipient.

I have deleted the accounts and added back.

Thete is no setting on webmail to help me.

IOS 11 and 12 did not have this problem though MacOS have had it for years. Its no doubt a Microsoft glitch but only shows up in 13.

Any help, or others testing this would be appreciated.

We are seeing this currently only with corporate mail and iPhone 8+ and older phones running v 13 and 13.1. We deleted the mail profile from 2 devices and reinstalled and the problem came back. We use Exchange 2016 on prem w/ Active Sync and Airwatch MDM.  If a user has an iphone with just personal mail we do not see the problem.   If we add a personal mail account to a corp phone with the double sent problem the personal mail account is fine. The double item is not presented in OWA or Outlook client.

Interestingly when you open the double sent items on the phone - one of the two will then disappear.  (it is always the first of the two that are showing on the phone that gets deleted).  Kind of like the message was staged for sending, and when actually sent in generated a second sent item entry.  Open that first one and it goes away…

Now, if you delete the item from Outlook or OWA first, it deletes the 2nd item showing as sent from the phone.  Now go to the first item of the double items sent on the phone and open it and it does not auto-magically delete... Not sure how that helps but at least wanted to put it out there...

Have just updated my iPad to iOS 13.2.3 and sent myself a test email from my outlook email using the mail app and there was no duplicate in the sent box! Yippee I thought, problem solved, so I updated my iPhone

I then thought I would send another test email from my iPad and the duplicate sent emails are back in sent.

Tried the same test on iPhone and first test email didn’t have a duplicate sent email but second and subsequent ones did!!

BOO TO APPLE

I have had this duplicate e-mail issue since iOS 13, with all updates, including 13.2.3. I also experienced the same as peter_watt in that I can send the very first e-mail after update with no duplicate (false optimism). But all subsequent e-mails are duplicated in SENT folder in the Mail app. Some issues are solved now, such as not having to delete emails twice in the app, and a couple of other minor things corrected.

However, the main issue, DUPLICATE emails in SENT folder remain.

I also want to mention once again that I am not using Outlook.com nor the Outlook app. I am a G-Suite (business) user only and sync with the Mail app due to familiarity and simplicity. Everything was just fine for the past several years, update after update, until iOS 13. So, this is AN APPLE PROBLEM, nothing to do with Outlook! Also, note that my personal e-mail account through Yahoo.com (AT&T) is not affected whatsoever.

Apple needs to address this very annoying issue! This has really gone on long enough.

I've also just updated to iOS 13.2.3, and I am using the Apple mail app with an outlook.com account. The "double delete" issue (where if you delete a newly arrived mail, especially if you delete it quickly before it has synced to read status, meant the screen flashed and seemed to delete it, but you would then be shown the same mail again, having to delete it a second time before it actually was deleted) seems resolved for me, as others have also mentioned. This fix was not mentioned explicitly in the 13.2.3 change log (unless it is related to fetching of new messages which affected some people and which is mentioned).

I also suffered from forwarded messages losing all the quoted content at the recipient end. This is explicitly mentioned as fixed, and I haven't been able to reproduce it either since upgrading, so fingers crossed (though it was intermittent previously, based I think in part on the formatting or length of the quoted message).

However, the most obvious issue - duplicates in Sent Items for sent messages - remains! For me at least, and many others, this is not an intermittent glitch, but happens for every sent mail - again, depending on the formatting or content of the message, sometimes one of the duplicates disappears when opened, sometimes not. Clearly a bug in the Apple mail app with Exchange accounts. Apple, please fix!

that was a issue for me in the previous release, but was fixed in the latest along with the delete issue. Still have issues with mail app badge showing new emails but you open the app and they are not there until you refresh. Sometimes connection to server failed etc I gave up

with Apple support everybody tells you different if you miss a call from your case manager then you are unable to reach them again and are assigned a new case manager well that was for my case anyway. Maybe I was just unlucky

Exactly what I was thinking. All the issues

are linked to updating to ios13

open emails twice

delete emails twice

emails appear in sent folder twice

two appear fixed in 13.2.3 but duplicate sent items still persist

connection to server failed

and mail badge app will show new mail but when opening the mail app the mail doesn’t show instantly.

And synch of mailboxes with desktop Outlook is inconsistent. Results in emails being “stuck” in folders and only able to be cleared by deleting mailbox on iPhone.

I moved to Outlook iOS which doesn’t have any of these issues. However it does have its issues and drawbacks, along with some really nice features, but alas, that is apparently for another thread in a different forum.

As far as I am aware all issues except "duplicates in sent items" are now fixed. This bug is rumoured to be fixed in the next major release but any mention of beta test results are forbidden here..

I find Outlook for iOS app far inferior to Mail even with this bug, particularly if like me you keep contacts etc in iCloud.

Hi, after update 13.2.3 one week ago on my iPad 3rd generation and iPhone 8plus I have had the same issue. I deleted the account on iPad only but then had no exchange to re add as I use hotmail. So I added via outlook. All good except this duplicate sent file but receiver only gets one email. My iPhone has exchange and my emails are doing the exact same thing. Now when I delete my sent file then go and delete my bin file from my iPad it only deletes these duplicates on my iPad but I have to manually delete them from my iPhone. Sync is on and works for all other emails and sent and bin it’s only the emails I send from either device. Apple can’t help me and can not explain why I no longer have exchange and had to use outlook. So my iPhone is using exchange and my iPad is using outlook. I don’t know what to do. Should I delete the accounts on both devices and re install both using outlook or leave it alone for now and hopefully it is an outlook issue or Apple does another update? I do have Microsoft Echange on my iPad but that didn’t work.

I’m having the same issues and it’s driving me nuts. I understand Microsoft is working on this at the moment but what concerns me is if it gets worse and I can no longer get emails on my iPad and iPhone as normally that’s what I use daily and only access a desk top a few times a week. All bills etc come in via emails. I sometimes get a server error on m iPad for a few mins then all works again. Apple unable to help and I’ve been on chat and calls several times. I still think the 13.2.3 has added to the issues Microsoft and outlook is having.

Nov 26, 2019 12:35 AM in response to hakanfrombath

All of the above is the same for me. But I removed my account after update as it stopped working and there was a server error. Since then I could add my hotmail account using exchange as it was not there. Microsoft Exchange was there in settings but I could use that my email account would connect so I used outlook and that works. So iPhone in exchange and iPad on outlook. All syncing but the exact issues your having.

Although I have updated the software to iOS13.2.3 (and was assured by Apple Support that this would fix the issue) I still get duplicate messages in the Sent folder when I send from Outlook in the Mail App on either my iPad or iPhone! I understand that this is because one copy is stored on the server and the other on the device. Of course I can simply delete one of the two copies on the device from which I’ve sent the message but then risk choosing the “wrong” one (the duplication only happens on the device from which I send, i.e. it only appears once on the other device) such that it gets altogether deleted from the other device. In the long term, this is unsatisfactory and not a solution.

I have removed my hotmail account on ipad on Sunday morning 1/12/19 which was using outlook due to server error since update 13.2.3 one week earlier and with Apple tech on the phone's help re added it through Microsoft exchange. This helped a little. However I do still get 2 emails sent in my sent file when in fact I sent only one and only one is received but also when I delete eg; 4 emails from my bin sometimes (Not always) it may only delete 2 and leave two that I have to delete each again. This also happens in on my iphone also. There are as many if not more complaints of this and everyone's complaints matching those here on Apple site on the Microsoft site as I am on both so it is an issue between Microsoft (Exchange/Outlook) and Apple update. I believe Peter_Watt may be right in saying get it as good as you can if you have done the delete account, hard restart, re add account and put in a call to Apple as well as report a problem on here then we may have to swim this one out till another update and hope it fixes the issue. What say you Peter_Watt? Do you agree?
