It's been a couple of days that while I write, no matter if in a document or excel sheet or here right now, sometimes a dot "." appears at the end of a word. How can I avoid this?

verify your software is up to date.
Check your preferences, have left your keyboard with default settings which maddeningly insert a period if you hit your spacebar twice. ?
