hi i set up my sons ipad, and must have done something wrong, on the setting screen shows my apple id and its greyed out, and he receives all my reminders etc on his ipad
can not see how to reset ipad to my sons apple id

It sounds like you signed into their iPad with your Apple ID and then set a restriction in Screen Time to prevent modifying any account information. I suggest turning off all restrictions temporarily in Settings -> Screen Time then signing out of your Apple ID. Once that is done sign in with their Apple ID and apply the restrictions again.
