If you have an iCloud backup that was made while the PDF was still in Apple Books on your device, it may be possible to recover by restoring your iPhone from that backup. This would erase any data saved to your iPhone after the date the backup was made. Here's how you can locate potential backups for your device:

If you locate a backup that you'd like to restore your device from, follow these steps:

If you're unable to restore the PDF from a backup, it may be unrecoverable. In that case, the PDF would need to be saved to the Apple Books app again from its original source:
