iPhone 6 Plus now obsolete
Since my 6 Plus is not upgradable to ios13, is my phone obsolete? If so, I’ll be shopping non Apple phones when I choose to upgrade my phone.

No. It will continue to work just as it does now.
As for shopping for another phone, good luck with that. Apple consistently provides updates and support far longer than other manufacturers do.
The 6 and 6 Plus are now 5 years old.

And that is when the other manufacturers decide to get around to it, if ever.

So my 5 yr old 6Plus w 64 GB will not get another upgrade? Perhaps, I’m waiting on a 5g compatible phone before I shell out $1k.
You'll just have to wait and see what happens... considering there are no 5G networks yet. The specification hasn't even been finalized yet.
Only iOS 12 bugfixes (security content) are possible. (e.g. 12.4.2).
But no, there will no longer be anymore major updates / design changes / features coming for the iPhone 5s, 6 and 6 Plus. Again the phone will continue to work on iOS 12. But in 2 - 3 years it would very well be possible that most apps in the App Store require iOS 13, which you cannot install on your phone.
Please understand that your phone is really old (5 years is a very long time for a phone), and usually people do not keep their phone for that long.
Don't be disappointed in Apple when you choose to use a now 5 year old phone.
The iPhone 6 doesn't have enough RAM to power iOS 13. But i'll work on iOS 12 for the next couple of years.
