Airpods low sound quality when in calls

Whenever I am in a call with airpods in the sound quality gets really bad as well as my mic quality. I have tried a lot of things but they still don't work. same thing happened for a pair of wireless earphones i had and same on my macbook. I cannot find a way to fix sound quality and i only got them today.
