MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017 model)- Palm Rest is HOT

Not sure if anyone else faced this problem, my MacbookPro gets very hot on the palm rest area on regular basis. "Macs Fan Control" app show the temperature of palm rest area is over 35C.

Wondering is this normal or should I call Apple Support to check this.

Laptop Cooler:

Well, use a Laptop Cooler that you can power from an external source, not off of the laptop itself. If this is to be serviced, place this in a non-busy location that is non-enclosed.

Preferred Laptop Cooler Specs:

Targus makes these laptop coolers as well as Logitech. Use one that it made of plastic, has lots of interior open space, lays at 30 or 35 degree angle, and has two or mor fans. All specs or which will all allow a consistent air flow.

I didn't have much time to run a thorough check, but one reading for the palmrest was at 33C after I had been using the laptop a bit trying to reinstall macOS (I don't recall the state of the battery). Later on I checked after the laptop had been sitting idle and fully charged the palmrest was 29C. The palmrest temp probably is somewhat influenced with charging and discharging the battery in addition to heat from CPU permeating the enclosure.

If you are concerned you can take the laptop to Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider where they have a more in depth Cooling Diagnostic than what is included with the consumer level diagnostic.

Tks for your reply.

I do understand about the unit will get heated up when the CPU gets hot, but I was expecting something like 30C around the palm rest area, specially in a an Air-conditioned environment.

One thing i use is I use the laptop plugged in to power all the time when I use and I also use an external monitor via USB-C adapter as well. (this is work laptop)

Is there anything I can do to make it more comfortable to use. Any advice is much appreciated.

Tks for your reply as well.

I would like to try to resolve it before going over for repairs cos they will keep my laptop for at least 3-4 days for diagnosis. :) and might ask me to change motherboard or something LOL (At least Apple Service in Malaysia is like that) I have similar experience in the past. I will not go there unless I'm sure it's covered under warranty. :)
