iPhone X - Garbled phone calls

Hi, Whenever I receive or make a call on my iPhone X the person I'm speaking to can barely make out what I'm saying. They say it sounds digitised, broken up, poor reception, drops... useless in other words. This also happens on my side where they sound garbled too.

I love everything else about the phone - I just wish it could function as a phone.

Fault resolution steps I have taken:

Update to the latest OS.
Shut down and re-start
Close all running apps
Switch to Cellular only
Switch to WiFi only

Any ideas?

You've done great steps so far! In this situation, I'd continue here:

If the microphones on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch aren't working - Apple Support

If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker - Apple Support

If you can't hear a person on a call or voicemail or if the sound isn't clear on your iPhone - Apple Support
