I haven't used named pipes in years. Is it possible to feed the Screenflow mp4 output directly into Handbrake in order to reduce the final product size? I currently do that manually - reduces the size by 75% or so.

However, you do not say which Mac OS you are on; there are big background security changes in it in Mojave and will be in Catalina, so I have no idea if you will have the needed access to make changes.
Actually, I had forgotten that for the macosx "named pipe" is called mkfifo introduced in BSD 4.4 - from "man mkfifo"
