US bought Apple Watch 4 use in the UK - Will it/won't it?

I have recently bought an Apple Watch 4 in the US.


Prior to buying, i was told, in the Apple store, that the watch would be compatible with UK networks but, now i am back home, the watch will not connect.


Doing some digging, it says that the watch absolutely will NOT work in the UK for cellular. Some significant money wasted there (thanks Apple!).


Is this correct. Is it a complete shut out or can the watch or the software be altered or updated to work?

Cellular Carriers that support the Apple Watch, which models, the radio frequencies each model uses, and the country where they offer service:

It is not software. It is the physical radio chip does not support the UK networks.
