Can't get by incorrect account id for re-activation of iPad 2

I have been using my ipad 2 for 3 years now. I did buy it used at that time. however there appears to be an activation lock that claims it is locked to another account. How do I get passed this? restore did not work - still linked to the orginal account and not mine that I have been using for 3 years.

Hello,

The iPad is locked with Activation Lock. There is no way around unlocking Activation Lock without inserting the device’s associated Apple ID. Since you bought this iPad used there is nothing you can do. Apple cannot help you either. The only way you will be able to get past this would be to reach out to the individual who sold it to you and have them remove the device from their iCloud account.

You may have been using the device for a long time, but the device was clearly not prepared correctly for you to use from day one. A device which has been correctly prepared for a new user, won't do this. Apple's database does NOT revert user ID's because they are held on the device. There is truly nothing you can here. Since you are not the original buyer and you do not have the original purchase receipt, Apple won't help you bypass activation lock. You're only hope is to reach out to the original owner and ask them to help you. Do you know them? Where did you buy the iPad from?

I'm glad you're back in. Apple security is the Best you can get and for good reason. We store a lot of sensitive data on our devices and if you ever had a device lost or stolen, you'd better appreciate how secure they are.

Even with high tech devices, sometimes, so low tech options are advisable. In that, I mean I keep a little metal notebook with all ID's and Passwords and keep it up to date as changes are made. This ensures I can't ever get locked out of a device. You might want to do something low tech for yourself.

If you don't know the Apple ID and Password which was used to set up the iPad and you don't know the previous owner to get their assistance, your iPad is now forever useless.

Apple won't help you and we can't help you. There is no way to bypass activation lock without the actual ID's used to set it up. Either get the assistance of the previous owner, or recycle the device.

Problem solved. It was an old ID that I since abandoned. In short I have it back. However, I will maintain that the security process/excuse is completely unreasonable. Bricking a completely good device as a security feature is like throwing the baby out with the bath water, not too mention an unneeded cost to the environment even if recycled. Bad apples.
