app or technique for cleaning a iMac hard drive. I would like to donate my iMac to charity.

Use Disk Utility in the Recovery Partition to format the drive.


  1. Restart in Recovery Partition (Command + R on startup)
  2. Select Disk Utility
  3. Format the Internal HD
  4. Quit Disk Utility
  5. Install Mac OS on the internal drive.


However before doing so please carefully read https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201065 and follow the steps in this advice letter!!!!
