Videos won't play in photos and Quicktime won't convert the video

I can't get some of the older (2015) videos to play in photos. When it asks if I want to play it using Quicktime, I click Okay and the Quicktime window pops up showing it is "converting" but then it stops and says "QuickTime Player can't open..." The video was taken using an iPhone 5s and is a ".mov" file.

What else can I do to get the videos to work? I have A LOT of videos of my kids growing up and a majority of them won't play now....

Export the video to your desktop and use the free download, Handbrake, to convert it to Mp4/AAC, that Handbrake will do by default. Mp4 pretty much has universal compatibility as a delivery format suitable for viewing. You can also edit it although it is not regarded as an editing format. I edit with it all the time. First make a duplicate of one of your movies and convert it with Handbrake. If it works to your satisfaction you can convert duplicates of the remaining movies. Duplicates are not necessary but you may want to preserve the original format of your original movies. Also, if anything goes wrong in the conversion process you will have your original intact. Always good to have a back up. You can always delete the original after converting the duplicate if you want.
