FaceTime gone dark since ios13 - dark mode?

Since I updated to iOS 13 my FaceTime camera has gone very dark. It’s ok in broad daylight but if I’m inside my picture can barely be seen. Maybe this has something to do with dark mode? Is there anything I can do to adjust brightness settings for my camera on FaceTime to adjust to what ever light environment I’m in? This has never been an issue previously.
