Whatsapp crashing when contacts sync ios13

Hi since I’ve updated to ios13 on my iPhone 7 Plus whatsapp kept crashing. I received my iPhone 11 pro yesterday and was hoping when my iCloud is restored it won’t cause the same problem but it did. So I reset the phone and took an old backup (when whatsapp worked properly) and it is still crashing but it works if I don’t sync my contacts. I’ve tried resetting the phone, deleting and reinstalling the app, I’m not sure on what else to do :( please help!

Had the same problem, tried a lot of tricks, what worked for me is :-


1- installed contact cleanup App to merge all duplicate contacts & duplicate numbers (don’t think it’s the solution though)

2- checked all contacts for any strange characters in the name, in my case I found one contact with extremely long Contact Name & full of symbols (most probably created by one of my kids), as soon as I deleted these characters, all works well again.

Had exactly the same problem. I thought it was with my iPhone contacts but it was because of my gmail contacts turned on on the account configuration. After I turned off those gmail contacts, WhatsApp worked fine with my iPhone contacts. It’s still a flaw of the iOS 13 version and the new iPhone 11 because I didn’t have that problem on my old iPhone.

Hi. Had exactly the same thing, took time to diagnose that WhatsApp crashing after ios13 update was due to contact sync. Found 2 contacts that my kids made on my phone with lots of emojis and deleted them - IT SOLVED THE PROBLEM !!!

BTW- I checked and if there is one emoji in a contact name, sync. Works and no crash. Hope this is useful, I lost a lot of time struggling with this issue ..;)
