Half the screen was filled with green and purple static when taking a selfie

Hi,

i just got my iPhone 11 pro yesterday. I haven’t dropped it or hit it on anything and I’m already having issues with the camera. I went to take a selfie on Instagram to see what the quality was like and half the screen was filled with green and purple static. I’m not sure what could have cause this or if just a problem with the phone. I tried to upload a screenshot but the file was too big. Does anyone have any idea what this could mean? And if I should consider returning the phone?

Hello Clairerupp98,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! Based on the details you've provided, it sounds like you are experiencing an issue with the camera while using Instagram. I am happy to help.

To confirm, is this only an issue when using camera within Instagram? Or, are you experiencing an issue with your camera in other applications, including the native Camera app?

If this is only isolated to the Instagram app in particular, it is not a hardware-related camera issue. Instead, you will want to follow the steps found here to troubleshoot the specific third-party application itself: If an app unexpectedly quits, stops responding, or won’t open - Apple Support If the issue remains after you complete all of the steps in the above article, you'll want to report the behavior to the app developer, as shown in step 5.

If you happen to notice this camera failure with all applications that use your camera, including the native Camera app, you should follow these steps: If the camera on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch isn't working - Apple Support

Reach back out if you need continued support.

Take care.
