ok, I do have it working.
1) ensure its enabled in settings - keyboard etc etc.
2) You have to enable mini floating keyboard (2 finger pinch over keyboard) and this brings up the floating mini keyboard.
It should now work
I think I also restarted iPad as well to be sure.

I updated all three ipads in my family to iPadOS 13.1 and none of them have slide to type (quickpath) working despite using the english keyboard, resetting dictionary, resetting all settings, powering down and up, etc..
It works fine on our iphones, but is broken on our ipads.
Quickpath doesnt work on my IPhone either its fine for two letter words but any more than that its knackered, the example Apple give you is to type AVOCADO all i ever get is Avicii. Why sell a gimmick that doesnt even work? its rubbish
There something wrong with your device then. Maybe your screen isn’t detecting swipes. I’ve typed this using QuickPath and it’s 100% correct. Avocado yes that works. Shame it only works on the floating keyboard.
There doesn’t need to be documentation because it is a bug that it doesn’t work with the full keyboard.
Nobody in their right mind could think that it is sensible to disable it for the full keyboard, what support of logic would that be?
They haven’t disabled it, they just haven’t enabled it for the iPad full keyboard which is different. It’s not hard to see why. The pattern matching routines are written for the phone keyboard and the only way you get the phone keyboard on the iPad is by using the floating keyboard. Personally I would like to see a way to dock the floating keyboard so it remains the same size and can be used for swiping, but docked.
Google and Swype seemed to be able to make the pattern matching work on the full sized keyboard, I've reinstalled gboard again now for that reason.
If that is the reason then they need to employ better programmers...
The iPad User Guide for iPadOS, available within the Apple Books App, is actually quite clear on this feature. The online version however, featuring similar text, is grammatically less clear than the full User Guide.
It's not a feature, it's pathetic programming.
the standard keyboard is the same shape and form factor as the floating and the phone keyboard, the text you swipe on it has the same pattern, just a different scaling. pattern matching should therefore work if it was scaled correctly.
You discovered the trick now, but it does only work with the floating keyboard.
My wife has iPad pro 11 and it also does NOT work on that either.
Yes, shame the documentation on this is not so great.
and it would be nice to have with full keyboard.
The documentation on a lot of these features are lacking. That has been a beef of mine with Apple from day one.
this did work, but I would prefer using the standard, rather than floating, keyboard.
however gboard seems to be a lot less frustrating/brain dead in it's choice of matching words so I am going to reinstall that on the iphone as well.
