Deleting multiple attachments and images at once in Messages in iOS 13.1

In iOS 12 I used to be able to go into a message, tap on the sender at the top of the screen, then tap the info button and it would show me all of the photos. I could then tap and hold down one of the images and a contextual menu would appear that showed Copy, Delete and More... After tapping More, I could select multiple images and then tap the blue Trash Can in the lower right hand corner of the screen and it would delete just those images without affecting the rest of the conversation.

Since iOS 13, that ability seems to be gone? Am I missing something? Is there a different way of doing it? It was an extremely valuable tool to get rid of large number of attachments without having to scroll though pages and pages of text.

I neglected to mention that you can delete multiple images from the thread itself--not using the "i" button:

  • Tap open a message thread
  • Find an image you want to delete and long press on it until a drop-down menu appears
  • Choose the More button
  • Checkmark the circles next to all the images you want to delete
  • Tap the trash can
  • Confirm

Hi John,

Yes, you are correct. With iOS 13, that very valuable feature is missing from the Quick Action options. No idea why!

Hopefully, it will return in a future update.

But for now, you have to delete images (and attachments etc.) one-by-one which is definitely NOT convenient.

Consider sending Apple your feedback and request for the return of the feature: https://www.apple.com/feedback/

I am running iOS 13.2 public beta 2 and it looks like they have fixed the issue. There is now a select button in the upper right hand corner of the window when you display all photos using the info button. When you press that, you can then select multiple images at once and a Delete button appears in the lower right hand corner of the screen allowing you to delete the selected images.
