GPS accuracy iOS 13 and/or 11 Pro Max

Has anyone else noticed any recent issues with their GPS accuracy on their 11 Pro or maybe even iOS 13. I can’t tell if it’s because it’s a new phone or the updated iOS but it seems when using map apps my gps location keeps moving around a lot when I’m stationary and it can’t seem to get a fixed location. Also seems it’s a bit off to the north about 20-30ft.

If you are sitting on your patio most likely the phone does not have a clear view of the sky in all directions. Your phone needs to be able to see at least 4 satellites to get an accurate position. As the satellites move very fast, your phone will see different satellites every few minutes. The erratic track is a typical symptom of incomplete GPS coverage. Get the free app GPSDiagnostic, which will tell you (among other things) how many satellites your phone is receiving at any given time.

50 feet is actually pretty good, 31 feet is the best you are going to get.

No one in this thread works for Apple, this is a user-to-user technical support site operated by Apple.

You best chance of finding an answer to your question is find an iPhone 11 Pro Max teardown (probably at a site that cannot be mentioned here), see if they identify it and then go to their site to see what is on it.

+ - 50 feet is unacceptable. Other Android phones are way better.

We are evaluating them at this time at work and we all agreed today to not recommend iPhones for our company. :( Sad.

10 other companies pass the GPS test. No iPhone models do.

Thank you for trying to solve this Nathan and Deggie. I will wait 48 hours before to return my phone in case something new comes up on this forum.

it‘s not that easy. Google maps is working fine. Okay. Satisfied. But I cannot simply use a another hiking app with filtering. As explained more than once: I have to use my special app, where all my tracks are gathered and stored. I cannot Import from another app with filtering and I cannot change my app which I am using for years now. I would lose all my tracks from the past years. And the technical explaining why the gps signal is not stable in the map is - to be honest - ******** (sorry for saying this). I have tried different GPS devices and NONE is such unstable like the 11 pro.

Even when I walk a circle, the iPhone 11 Pro is the only device that shows me a tangle of lines, but nothing that resembles a circle.

So do not tell me that this is normal :-(

And yes: of course I could use such other devices for my tracking, but I do not want to carry so much hardware with me. I just want to use one device and this should be my new iPhone 11 Pro as I am also taking great photos with it.

Let‘s stop the discussion here. You cannot help me and I can only hope that maybe a software update will fix the issue one day. Otherwise I have to upgrade to a iPhone 12 (which will be hopefully better) or change to Android (with way better accuracy even below 16 feet).

I have been having an issue with Maps that has expanded into my SmartThings app. The iPhone 11 Pro GPS location tends to drift FAR more than my previous iPhone 7 did. When it drifts, it moves my more than 500 ft (while I am stationary). This was causing my SmartThings location-based routines to run. I adjusted the routines to only act after a location was established for a minute or more, and I am still seeing issues. The distance is drifting so much and for so long that it is basically useless for tracking my position while I am at my house. Is there a way to fix this severe GPS drift?

Dear all,

Just found a new study on smartphones GPS accuracy comparing different phones. Thought it might be relevant for this discussion group.

It is worth mentionning that I heard that Apple will upgrade significantly their iPhone GPS capabilities for the next generation of device. This will be welcomed.

This is an ongoing problem for me as well with my iPhone 11. I hike a lot and use GPS to track and record my hikes. There's a lot of misinformation in the recorded tracks from my phone. When I stop during a hike it adds may meters of distance I guess by trying to locate me. When will this be fixed? There should be a fix without waiting for and having to buy the next generation of iPhone.

Has anyone heard anything new on this problem?
