Changed Apple iD - now Messages not working

I changed my Apple iD yesterday.

Everything looked fine.  (To confirm it had worked OK, I checked the details on https://appleid.apple.com/#!&page=signin.)

But now - after changing the iD - none of my old devices (iPhone, MBP and iPad) are receiving Messages.  I’m only getting Messages on a brand new (2018 model) iPad that I set up yesterday.

Any idea of what’s gone wrong here, and how to fix it?

What error message do you get when it rejects the new ID?

Messages – Can’t log in

Messages – Can’t log in 2

Messages - If you can‘t sign in to your iMessage account or FaceTime on your Mac

Message activation error

Have someone else attempt to sign in using their Apple ID. If they can successfully sign in and use Messages/FaceTime, it may be your Apple ID. Someone I know had this happen and I was able to sign in using my Apple ID. After a call to Apple Support and then being elevated to a tier 2 support person, it turned out it was a problem with their Apple ID. It took the software engineers 3-4 days to fix the problem. When calling Apple, make sure you tell them it is an Apple ID problem so you don't get charged.

You can also try signing in on another device/computer. There have been a couple of posts where people's device/computer was blocked. You will need to contact Apple for that problem also.

There is a contact link.

I've done some research and I think I can see where the problem might be - but I don't appear to be able to solve it.

When I check Messages /Preferences /Accounts, on an old MacBookPro I can see that it's showing the old Apple iD enabled. If I sign out of this, and apply the new Apple iD + new password, it rejects it.

But if I check the Apple iD support page (as above, in my original post) it shows 3 of my devices available, all with the new iD - and that includes the old MBP that is telling me the new iD is invalid.

Seems like the problem is with Apple somehow - it both accepts and rejects the new iD, depending on the device. And even those devices it rejects are shown to be Ok on the new iD, even when they're not.

How can I fix this?
