How to upgrade to macOS High Sierra. That is as far as that model will go.

  1. Perform a Time Machine backup before you upgrade
  2. Boot into Recovery ⌘-R and run Disk Utility First Aid on your startup drive. Then restart.
  3. It could not hurt to run Malwarebytes for Mac if you presently are using macOS 10.10 or later.
  4. Ensure that you have at minimum 20+ GB available storage. Alot more would be preferable.
  5. Check that your third-party applications have updates that work on High Sierra
  6. Check that your printer/scanner vendors still support these devices with current driver updates.
  7. Upgrade to High Sierra if there are no show-stoppers in the above.
