Screen frozen while software update

yesterday updating software and sometime during this process ipad screen frozen on white screen with apple-tried reset, when to iTunes but cannot restore "invalid response was received by device"

Frozen on Apple Screen Our family iPad attempted to download and install an update overnight a couple weeks back. It failed and is now stuck on the apple screen. A trick we saw online said to hold the power button and home button to power off, then to hold the home button while plugging the device into our computer to get iTunes to recognize the device. This worked however... In iTunes recognizing, it is failing to restore or update the iPad as "an error occurred".

I went to update my iPad and now it's frozen with a screen that shows a cable pointing toward iTunes. When I try to restore it says unable to do it. Has anyone had this problem? If so, how did you resolve it?
