iCloud Tab Syncing Not Working Safari 13 <-> iOS 13

I'm using a 2010 MBP, so High Sierra is the end of the line for me. With iOS 12, iCloud Tabs worked fine with Safari on my Mac. Now, with iOS 13 (and 13.1), it no longer communicates.

My iPad and iPhone (both on iOS 13.1) share tabs with no issue. Safari on my computer (13.0.1) sees neither.

Is this expected behavior on the older macOS (I'd assume the new Safari should include necessary sync updates)?

Thanks.

I am in the same situation: I have a late 2009 iMac with macOS High Sierra which is the latest version supported for my Mac.

iCloud tabs have always worked fine on my Mac on Safari (also with the latest version 13.0.1) and on my iPhone until iOS 12.

Since I have updated to iOS 13, iCloud tabs stopped working: on iMac in Safari there is the iCloud tabs button but it loads anything while on iPhone in Safari nothing appears.

The latest version iOS 13.1 didn't resolve the issue.

The iCloud tabs are a very useful function, how can the problem be solved to restore the correct behaviour?

Thanks

OK, got it. Thank you.

I do understand not synching between different versions of Safari. But if Apple is going to release and maintain Safari 13 for High Sierra and keep the versions the same, this feature should work. Oddly, bookmarks sync just fine across all of my Safari 13 devices (High Sierra, Catalina, and iOS 13). LOL.

So, this is limited to the iCloud Tabs feature, it appears. I have opened a ticket with Apple about this, so we'll see what they come back with. Could just be a bug. I'm hoping that's what it is, since High Sierra is the end of the road for my trusty 2011 iMac. Yes, I know that I'll need to upgrade soon, anyway. Just putting it off!

Yes, precisely, on all points. End of the road for the computer, not for the phone or iPad. It *should* work. I believe the issue is with how iOS 13 now syncs tabs (fully encrypted). Obviously, they didn't implement that correctly in Safari 13 for High Sierra (and seems buggy for Mojave, as it works intermittently for those sharing here).

If you also have this issue, please press "I have this question, too" on the first post so it can be clear to Apple (who do roam these forums) it's not an isolated problem.

Yes, for me now that I upgraded my iphone x to iOS 13.1.2

Both my Macs are running 10.14.6 Sup 2 with Safari 13.0.2

This thread, about the third comment, is mine. Today I upgraded the iOS on the phone. Now, tabs sync ONE WAY. I see the tabs from my iMac 10.14.6 Sup 2 and Safari 13.0.2. But I DO NOT see the tabs in the reverse on Safari.

****UPDATE**** after about 30 minutes of looking at this, now I see my iOS 13 iPhone X on my iMac... so its working both ways now...

Yes. Me using MBP 2011 as well. No more syncing in between. Did follow up with Apple support with various troubleshooting such as created new user logged in same Apple ID on same MBP to test. Apparently it works on MBP with different user on same Apple ID. Looks like it is related to compatible issue between iOS 13 and high Sierra.

anywhere I’m waiting apple support to call me back again. As per last conversation they were escalating to another senior level.

I have the same issue as this, Mojave 10.14.6 suppose 2 on my Mac, IOS13 on iPhone and IOS 12.4.2 on my iPad.

Have no issues syncing Tabs between Mac and iPhone either but but iPad does not work anymore. I am unable to upgrade the iPad to 1os13 as it is an original iPad Air so 1OS 13 is not supported on it. So it looks like IOS 12 these older iPad needs to support the new encrypted tab sinc model...

This seems to be the other side of this issue...that the old and new forms of tab syncing (and history sync) are completely incompatible. Unfortunately, Apple seems to be unable or unwilling to make them work together. To me, the simplest solution is to fall back to the older sync model if the user still has one or more devices not on iOS 13 or Mojave+.

Same issue here: Updated to Catalina on mini and new iOS (along with iPhone 11), but my old laptop doesn't see the iCloud tabs of anything now. I do a lot of research this way and go back to tabs to file or follow-up. Laptop is becoming less useful. Ugh.

iOS 13.1.3 iPad Air 2 and iPhone 11

macMini late-2011 Catalina

MacBook Pro (15 in, mid-2010...I know, I know) Sierra 10.12.6

Running Catalina and iOS13....tabs sync. Running iOS12 and older Mac...those tabs sync between those devices, but not with the iOS13 and Catalina Macs. Apparently the synching of tabs wasn't encrypted before...now it is, and only syncs when running the latest sw.

It's becoming annoying that new devices can't fully work with older devices. I won't be upgrading my Macs every time I get a new iPhone. One would assume most won't and prefer to spread out the costs, and therefore 'everyone' will experience issues like this tab synching one.

Same here. High Sierra on an end of the road Mac and just lost Tabs and History sync with iOS 13. Thanks for nothing, Apple.

This kind of stuff really tans my hide. Nowhere in the new features list does it ever say "this will break functionality for every other device". Apple used to be above these shenanigans. Now they're into the game of chipping away at perfectly good hardware to get you to buy new. Yeah, sure, I'm going to go out and drop thousands every time they release an update to break my stuff. No thanks. So disappointing.

I am having the same issue with a Late 2011 MacBook Pro laptop that has macOS Sierra (10.12.6) installed on it and that can't be upgraded to Catalina. Before I upgraded my iPhone to iOS 13 (and my office laptop to Catalina), iCloud tabs were syncing very well, but now iCloud tabs in Safari in macOS Sierra shows empty list... This eliminates a hugely used feature...

Since I'm not the only one here, I assume this is some kind of a bug.

Is there anything to do to fix this? Or maybe a workaround? I tried disabling Safari sync in iCloud preferences and then enabling it back - it did not help.

Nov 9, 2019 9:03 PM in response to J-Pro

Sorry, no fix available. Apple doesn't allow downgrading of iOS, even if you restore from backup. My workaround was replacing Safari with a different browser. Importing the bookmarks and history was easy, passwords are managed by a pw manager so no big deal, and now all my tabs sync with my iPhone, iPad and new and old Macs again.

More and more I'm replacing Apple's stock apps with 3rd party ones. There may come a time where I simply don't need nor care to use macOS/iOS.
