I've seen plenty of caution over restoring an i4 from an old backup. From these boards, genius bar peeps, etc. That really could be faulty. It's software meant to read hardware from 3 years ago.

I would do a restore as a new phone, making sure to choose the same location for contacts, email, notes, etc as in the past. You will have to sacrifice saved text messages unfortunately.

Oh and make sure to plug it in and back up your pictures / apps.

oh bro! its not a big deal.. as you are saying, your iph is not kinda accepting your passcode.

well actually its not the case.. if u notice when you are trying to tap or type your passcode, A BLOCK(square) appears on the each digit you are about to tap. just let the block or square thingie thing appear on the digit you wanna type. and than TAP TWICE anywhere on the screen except the digits. let me tell you again.if you wanna type or tap your passcode. you have to tap once on the digit you wanna type to just let it appear on the specific digit and than tap your iph screen twice. you will see the digit you wanted to appear in that 4 digits passcode column will appear..so keep doing this untill you are done with your passcode !!

best of luck!! 🙂

If you remember your password you may be in luck. I forgot mine but knew it had to be something I would eventually remember (like a birthday or post code etc). After attempting to enter passcode 10 or 11 times (can't remember exactly), my iPhone running iOS 8.2 was disabled. The plug into iTunes symbol appeared, then according to online instructions I was supposed to restore. However I didn't have a backup so didn't want to do that. my solution? I plugged device in to PC, started iTunes. Closed iTunes and uninstalled, unplugged device. Then I reinstalled the latest version of iTunes and plugged in device to PC and opened itunes again. At this point, my device passcode entry was reset back to zero, so I had another 10 or 11 attempts. I did this process (uninstall and reinstall itunes) 3 times (30+ passcode attempts) until I got the right one. i have since tested this on another device running iOS 8 and worked.
