Iphone 11 Pro Max and Carplay not working

I have the new iPhone 11 Pro Max and a 2018 Nissan Maxima with carplay. Carplay worked with my previous Iphone X even after the IOS 13 upgrade but with the Iphone 11 Pro Max carplay just keeps saying it won't start and retries again. Any ideas?

Found a solution here. Please buy a USB male to type c female converter. Use that to connect with the type c lightening cable comes with the iPhone 11. It works immediately when I plug in.

It is the software and hardware compatibility issue. This could be a fix before the official solution comes out.

Thank you. Where did you get this info?

It's my job.

nd I have talked with Subaru. I’m on the latest version. I have reset it numerous times.

What version would that be?

Hey guys, try this make sure your on 13.1.2, goto settings > Apple car play on your my link or GM car menu, goto manage devices and delete your iPhone.

wait a few seconds, unplug your phone, click add devices in the car menu screen under CarPlay , then hit continue on the on screen prompts. Wait about 20 secs should work.

if that doesn’t, with the phone disconnected goto settings > general > CarPlay on your iPhone, delete your Chevy GM car, then goto your car settings again and make sure your phone is deleted under a Manage devices include your vehicles menu.

next plug in the iPhone again, goto your car screen menu and tap settings > CarPlay > add device with your phone connected and follow the prompts.

this is the only way I can get it to work.

My guess it has todo with different security hardware in the iPhone 11 vs previous phones, and chevys my link software/GM seems to be the only cars having the issues. The car seems to get stuck in a halfway connected state, but doesn’t seem to have permissions to fully connect. But by re adding it with the steps above it gives it permissions.

now CarPlay works about 80% of the time, occasionally I have to follow the steps above again. Hopefully Apple fixes it with 13.2

also sometimes to get the vehicle out of the halfway connected state you have to pair your iPhone 11 to Bluetooth on the car, then turn Bluetooth off and try the steps above. Using Bluetooth forces the Chevy car to close CarPlay on its internal software and disconnect from any CarPlay devices it thinks are still connected. May also be another reason why it not working, because of how CHEVY/GM programmed its Bluetooth function.

2019 Maxima here with an 11 Pro Max. Been following this thread from the beginning and so far the only thing that has worked is turning off the new smart charging feature. So far so good and the lag that occurred in the past when it even decided to work is gone. Hopefully this fixes it until Apple can issue an official fix. Good luck everyone

Adding my name to this thread for a hopeful solution from Apple.

Used an iPhone X and XS flawlessly for 2+ years with my Sony XAV-AV5000 unit. Received the iPhone 11 Pro and have had nothing but issues with CarPlay since. Clearly hardware because I've swapped about a dozen different cables and have used the stock/shipped iOS and every developer beta update since to no avail.

It connects approximately 1 out of every 10-15 attempts. After a few minutes of connectivity (should it actually connect), Maps becomes incredibly sluggish and unresponsive. Music skips like old CDs did in the 90s. It's atrocious.

Unrelated (and this gives me extreme worries that it's a major hardware issue), a good friend of mine is having a terrible time with her Dexcom continuous blood glucose transmitter after activating her iPhone 11 as well. Clearly there's something else going on here based on this thread.

Had the same issue as soon as I started using my iPhone 11 Pro Max with iOS 13 & then 13.1.2. This was occurring on all of my vehicles that were CarPlay compatible and even a rental car. Also same issue with different lighting cables.

Updated to iOS 13.2 Beta (17B5068e) Problem solved on all vehicles using all cables. Haven't had a failure yet.

So if your patient enough to wait for the official release of 13.2, it should solve. If not, join the Beta program, download 13.2 and you should be good to go.

Any other users still having issues while using 13.2 ?
