No music playing on ipod classic

I have had a ipod classic for years and had no problem with it until recently. When I choose music to play in the window it shows the record and details of artists. At the top of the screen it shows "Now Playing" and details are shown on the screen of the record including album covers. The title of the record scrolls from left to right but there is no music played through the ears phones. The bar at the bottom which shows the length of time of the record does not move. I have replaced the earphones which I know work and have deleted and re installed I Tunes and reset the ipod back to its factory settings but still nothing is played via the ear phones. The playlist on the ipod is shown in Itunes and music plays within Itunes but not via the ipod. Anyone have any ideas what the problem is ?

You probably need to swap out the headphone jack & hold switch assembly. See Corrupt iPod Classic - Apple Community. What are your HDD stats? Worth checking they are OK before investing in a repair.

Thanks for that info. I bought a second hand Ipod Classic 30 GB 5th gen in beautiful condition but there is no sound coming from the headphones I have managed to get some sound out of it at times but intermittent and poor quality. I swapped the back cover from another Ipod that I know the headphone jack was good on (well before, in my haste I accidentally ripped the battery connector socket from the mainboard - I shouldn't have rushed it) and it still wasn't outputting any sound. I saw this post and tried the Diagnostics. Here is my results so can you tell me if it looks OK from this perspective please @turingtest2

It appears to have very low hours played on it and as I said is in beautiful cosmetic condition. I ended up getting it for me after I advised the vendor that there was no sound but I would really love to fix it if possible. Any advise on my diagnostic results or any other ideas greatly appreciated. Thanks

Thanks. Yes I replaced the battery on the first one that I got (also for free) and then I had a problem where it wouldn't eject (I use MediaMonkey in Windoze 10) so I had to open it and disconnect the battery to get around this on two occasions. Second time I rushed at lunchtime and ripped the battery connector Doh :) I'll keep playing around with the two and see what I come up with and thanks for the help and support
