IPhoto is always the program that opens up my pics or when I try to save a pic. I want to use Photos, since I thought Apple was doing away w/Iphoto. Also, not able to use the Apple repair tool since I'm not able to highlight the "Photos" folder.
Control (right) - click on the iPhoto app in the Applications folder and select Compress "iPhoto.app". When that's done
When that's done you'll see these two files:
Drag the one with the .app extension to the Trash Bin and empty.
That's an easy fix: select and compress the iPhoto application and delete the uncompressed version when done. Now Photos is the only app available.
This way you still have iPhoto if you need it in the future for any reason.
Thank you so much. That really helped. Getting ready to activate my new MacPro and didn't want to clog it up w/over 1.2 G of photos....(Now I need to clean it up, since i know it's mostly a jillion of the same pics). Thanks again.
