Java runtime environment 1.5

Hello,

I'm trying to use an old app for my mac pro, this app it was working on mac OS Tiger but I was a long time without using it, and now my OS is Sierra, exactly 10.12.6. When I try to open it appears this ad:

Java runtime environment 1.5 not found, you must install the last java update from http://apple.com/downloads

I have try to use the last version inside the own java site. And I installed this version from the apple site: Java para OS X 2017-001 that I suppose makes compatibility with old apps.

Can anybody help me please? Some idea?

Thanks and kinds regards.

P.S. Apple chat assistant told me contact java support, any knows any email to contact them?

Java support is at Oracle, and they’ll not be interested in helping with this.

Java 5 (free) support ended in November 2009.

Java 5 and Java 6 can’t make secure network connections, among (many) other issues.

What’s the problem you’re trying to solve here?

Not about this particular app and its antique prerequisite.

What are you up to?

You’ll either be replacing this app, or figuring out how to spend way, way, way more than that $300 cost in terms of time and effort and hassles and instabilities getting this old stuff to work as a guest in a virtual machine. And that assumes this app needs Tiger on Intel and not on PPC, and which is not at all certain.

Or you figure out how to purchase the replacement app, or a (cheaper) alternative, or acquire the donations or grants necessary.

The application may have been written to explicitly check for the presence of Java v1.5 and simply fail when it finds anything newer. Or it may reference a Java 1.5 language or library feature that was deprecated and removed in later releases of Java.

Your best bet is Eau Rouge's suggestion, or forget about getting that application running with current Java revisions.

Ok, thanks you two,

I would think the same thing, a library deprecated or removed but the program it was running in other macbook from my teacher (I'm not sure the OS version, but more or less the same one mine, I'm waiting for her answer) but I need to use this app, It cost 300$, I'm student and I can not afford it.

I will follow looking for the answer to my problem. Thank you once, anyway.

Kinds regards.
