Bricked iPhone X

After a week from updating to iOS 13 my wife’s iPhone X died all of a sudden, no damage or fall or water..tried soft reset, hard reset and DFU methods but nothing, iTunes won’t even recognize it. Took it to my local authorized service center the guy said it needs to be replaced he wanted to charge me 90% of its current price because it is 3 months out of warranty which is absurd. What can I do..Chat support didn’t help either..it is a 1500$ device that lasted 15 months..any help would be greatly appreciated

Hello,

Should be close to the pricing found in iPhone Repair and Service - depending on where you are located, you should be able to get a mail-in repair set up with Apple Support.

Also some things to consider:

  • Did you by chance purchase the iPhone with a credit card?  Some cards offer purchase protection or additional warranties that they don’t often advertise and it is worth checking with your credit card issuer to see if your card has this.
  • Do you have a home owners or renters insurance policy?  Some policies cover devices like phones, and it is worth checking to see if yours may cover this type of damage to your phone - might not be worth it though if high deductible.
  • Did you buy the phone at an Apple partner store like Best Buy, Costco or Target?  Some stores offer "damage protection" that is not discussed at the time of purchase. It may be worth checking the receipt to see if that was added.

Try reaching out again to Apple Support as well especially if you would like to see if you can do the mail-in repair option
