Can I use macbook pro 15'' with bad gpu as external monitor for a new macbook pro?

My macbook pro 15" 6,2 has a bad gpu, and there are pink and green lines and artifacts on my screen. I am getting a new macbook pro, but I was wondering if I can use my old macbook pro 15'' with bad gpu as an external monitor, or will the pink and green lines still show up?

I am not sure how you reached those conclusions based on those symptoms.

If you see these artifacts from a cold start, that indicates a problem with main system RAM, which is replaceable in that model.

dual graphics processors -- a NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M with 256 MB of dedicated GDDR3 memory and Intel HD Graphics with 256 MB of RAM shared with the system -- that Mac OS X automatically switches between for better graphics performance and better battery life, respectively, depending on application use.

I did not post everything that was happening because that was not really the main point of my question. I am getting vertical pink lines on white space and one flickering green line along the edge of my screen in the dark space. That along with the kernel panics stating that it's my gpu and a bit of research about my specific model having trouble with the gpu and being recalled for it helped me reach those conclusions. I just changed my RAM with some from OWC late last year.
