New Yahoo account - "imap.mail.yahoo.com” on the default ports timed out

Hello!

It seems I'm blocked from adding any emails on my MacBook Pro (High Sierra). I've tried:

1) Turning on/off computer

2) On/off router

3) Allowing Yahoo on my ISP

4) Also tried getting Gmail on instead but get same results

I used to sort these problems out using "Assist me" which has sadly been taken off

If it's of any consequence, the iCloud imap is also Offline - I dont know if I've done something to that or if it was always Offline.

Is there any way of seeing (and changing if necessary) the imap ports - as only smtp is available?

I obviously don't know what I'm doing - can anyone please show me the way.

Many thanks

MacBook Pro

Unfortunately Apple has made it impossible to see or change server settings for any of the Auto setup choices, but do you thing these were the settings?

Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server

  • Server - imap.mail.yahoo.com
  • Port - 993
  • Requires SSL - Yes

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server

  • Server - smtp.mail.yahoo.com
  • Port - 465 or 587
  • Requires SSL - Yes
  • Requires authentication - Yes

Your login info

  • Email address - Your full email address (name@domain.com)
  • Password - Your account's password
  • Requires authentication - Yes

Yahoo has been most unreliable forever, & I even have all mail from Yahoo blocked since it's great for spam.

I'd seen that about third party password but decided 1) I'd already been using yahoo emails on Mail since April - 2) Surely Mail isnt an old app - 3) If I did generate a password, might that mess up my iphone!

I've been reading a lot of posts on Support Communities (and other websites) where Mail isnt working, same as mine. But I haven't come across anything new that would get mine working.

There's a new software update which I'll try and do tomorrow - I don't hold much hope but you never know!
