So over the last week Ive been doing a little testing.

100% of the time (25+ times) when starting the car at the back of my property or out and about with the phone on me and no apple watch on it connects fine although twice it connected the phone for calls but didn't connect for music and I had to manually click the music device connection and it would then connect without issue.

Around 50% of the time (10 times) when I would start the car while either wearing the watch or even if I started the car from the front of my property which is right next to my bedroom so the watch would be in range of my cell and I assume still be connected on some level the Iphone 11 pro would not connect to my 2012 Chrysler 300.

The reason I still think its on the uconnect end is as follows;

  1. I had this issue with my last iphoneX for the previous 18 months around twice a month. It was noticeable enough to me that I would only start my car in the morning to warm up if my iphone was left in the kitchen next to the driveway so the phone was never out of range of the car.
  2. I previously noticed with the iphoneX that if the car connected and then I took the phone out of range of the car it was 50/50 if the car would reconnect when I went back into range.
  3. If the car didnt connect or lost connection due to range the only way to reconnect was to turn the car off and leave it off for 5+ mins. No amount of button clicking in either the bluetooth menus of the car or phone would ever get it back. If i lose connection due to range in my van with a pioneer headunit I simply connect again via the bluetooth menu of the iphone and 100% of the time within 2 seconds its reconnected.

My conclusions from reading the posts here and my own experience are;

  1. It appears that if you have any device connected via bluetooth (not limited to just the apple watch seeing others have had the issue while wearing other brand smart watches) we run the risk of our phone not connecting to uconnect.
  2. It seems to only be an issue with unconnect and iphone as others and myself have no issue with connecting to any other brand headunits.
  3. The later your iphone model is the greater your chance of seeing the issue

When you unplug the battery you reset all the preferences, it’s probably like a factory reset. I think the problem it’s not only Apple iOS. The uconnect is a very old system, my system is 5 years old, and there are not updates for it, so I guess the iOS has some deprecated functions by now and uconnect cannot keep up with that. Anyway, so far everting works fine and I alway wear my Apple Watch 3

it would be nice to see what uconnect version has this problem with Bluetooth. For example my uconnect 8.4 is from 2014, so the software is 5 years old and never updated. I don’t have any problem with all my other Bluetooth devices, but uconnect. So I think the uconnect software i have installed is becoming old and deprecated and soon will be more difficult to connect to it with newer OS phones. I don’t have any problem with the uconnect I have in my renegade 2018.

You may be on to something. My experience has been ever since I bought the iPhone 11 Pro, bluetooth issues from the jump. I had an iPhone X on iOS 13 and never had issues. I'm sure it is an iOS issue because Apple in at least 2 updates for iOS 13 has tried to address bluetooth issues with various car manufacturers. I do have an Apple Watch 3 and it seems I have better luck remote starting my car while my devices are far away then walking up for my phone to connect.

This makes me hesitant to buy another iPhone at launch due to crap like this.

I'm on an older uconnect since I'm in a 2012 vehicle that's nearing 200k miles and past the end of any level of warranty. I've had it for quite some time without any issue (until the recent firmware revisions) and the firmware on the head unit has been constant for me. I feel like the person introducing the change (in this case Apple) should be the person who has to update their processes to alleviate the issue. Asking a vehicle manufacturer to update firmware on a vehicle well past warranty life due to the changes by a single vendor's firmware is not likely to get any assistance. At the moment, I'm probably just going to have to roll firmware back if I want to use bluetooth, or go to using an Aux cable to enable basic functionality. Does anyone know if apple monitors these forums or do I just need to open up a case with support? For the amount of money I (and many others) invest in apple products, they should be able to correct their firmware issues to support a standardized protocol like bluetooth. Just my 2 cents.

I agree. I've never had any connectivity problems with any iPhone until iOS 13 came out. I think Apple realizes that there are some major problems with it, that it was rushed. Look at how many updates there have been since it was released. I've spent time on the phone with Apple support, in my car, duplicating this problem, and they've got the logs from the problem. I'm not sure what to do next.

I talked with support last night, and came up with some new tests. I've unpaired my Apple Watch Series 5 w/cellular, and will not use it for a couple of days. I also have a current generation iPod that is running iOS 13.3. I will try using that with my uConnect system and see if it connects reliably. Today when I went to work, the iPhone connected normally. I was also able to pair my iPod successfully. The uConnect recognizes both devices, but only allows one to be active at a time. I was able to switch between them several times without any problems. Gonna give it a couple of days and see what happens.

I've not heard from Apple for over 10 days. I sent them pictures of what my Journey does when it fails to connect. Since then I've alternated wearing my analog watch and Apple Watch, and as expected whenever I have the Apple Watch it never connects reliably (like, maybe 1 time out of 10). When I have my analog watch on, it connects, but have had it drop the connection in the middle of a call several times. It doesn't disconnect the call, it just drops the BT connection to the car. Getting a little tired of all this but what can one do??

I updated firmware to 2.7 on 2012 wrangler with uconnnect 730. Upgraded to iPhone XS Max. Prior to firmware, had same issue (calls worked, no audio). Post firmware update, calls work with much lower volume now. Still no audio though now it says it’s playing and I can see it playing on the head unit. I can even pause it. Not sure what they changed in the latest iOS builds but it seems like nothing is getting better. Ill likely just be going to a

lightning to aux cable since it doesn’t appear apple has any intention of fixing this.

Just for the record, what series of watch are you using? GPS only, GPS/cell? Mine is a Series 5 GPS/cell 44mm and my carrier is AT&T. I've sent log files to Apple several weeks ago documenting this failure as it happened but have heard nothing from the. The person I talked to says that the technical people are aware of our thread. My guess is that will be iOS 14......

I have a iPhone 11 Pro Max and my wife has an iPhone 11. Neither will connect to the Uconnect system in our vehicle. After much time spent with Apple support, it was determined that my phone is not malfunctioning and the issue is likely with the Uconnect software. I upgrade the Uconnect software successfully and that did not resolve the issue. I just spoke to a Uconnect representative and I was told that iOS 13.3 has not been tested with the Uconnect system in my vehicle (2013 Chrysler Town & Country) and she could not give me a time frame for when their software development team would have this resolved.
