Hi. I am trying to partition my external SSD but the option to partition in Disk Utility is greyed out. I googled it but I couldn't find it. People were talking about the bootcamp but this is not what I want. It is an external SSD and I am trying to partition to divide some tasks.
OBS: I already tried to format the disk and all the volumes in it

And in addition to macjack's excellent observation, why in today's world of fast SSDs would you need to partition a drive? Partioning was common in the old days of slow rotating drives. With the speed of SSDs why not just create directories to separate items?

Many will say that Time Machine should always be put on a totally
separate drive all to itself. Having it share a drive is not really a good idea.
Yes. I did. I did erased the whole volume and tried to partition it. Still didn't worked
Partition Map is MBR, should be GUID. Also for Time Machine it should be formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

I am using my SSD with all my plugins, sounds and instruments for Logic Pro X exactly for the same reason, it is a pretty fast storage. I want to back my computer up with time machine in the same SSD. That is why I want to partition it
Did you choose the uppermost, unindented icon representing the entire drive? You may have to first click on "View" in the upper left to reveal it.
