why the icons stay in the dock

I just installed Mojave and now when quitting a app they still remain in the dock

is this the way they now work in Mojave or is there a issue with my MacBook

Go to System Preferences...>Dock>...and uncheck "Show recent applications in Dock."

Thanks, never thought to check that, was just a little worried something was wrong after being so happy Mojave fixed the 3 issues I had with High Sierra.
