guce.advertising

When using Safari on mac, whenever I enter aol.com in address bar, I get redirected to "guck.advertising.com" and Safari displays "Safari cant's Open the page https://guce.advertising.com/collectIdentifiers?sessionId=2_cc-session_d430813a-cb1b-45c1-83dc-1e45e9189c43 because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection.

I believe guck.advertising is a malware redirecting my entry and preventing me from accessing aol when using Safari. I tried to reset Safari to default setting ** it has not helped. I purchased & downloaded ZAP app from the APP store and it did not detect guck. Any one knows how to get rid of guce.advertising malware on MACOS?

I am using Safari v13.01 on macOS 10.14.6

Hi njarif,

There seems to be a lot of confusion about guce.advertising.com. First, you are only seeing this because your ad blocker is blocking advertising.com. Unblock it and there will be no problem. However, I accidentally found another solution. First, visit the help site at

"https://help.aol.com/products/aol-mail", wait for the page to load, and use the "Check Mail" link there. Apparently, this page sets the required magic cookie, without requiring a visit to advertising.com. Careful, because their help site is in some confusion today.

advertising.com is an Oath company that does exactly what it says. Oath owns AOL. GUCE stands for "Global User Consent Event", which somehow means that you agree to all their policies, presumably including viewing advertising. Apparently, the AOL webmail login redirects through advertising.com if your browser doesn't have a required cookie. I've noticed that a lot of bogus malware removal sites suggest that it's a virus which can be removed by their products.

Eric. Thank you for the reply. There is no guarantee that another app will solve the problem. I have already purchased form the app store two anti malware apps and they failed to detect and fix the problem. I would rather understand how to remove guce.advertising.com malware preferably manually. Any help is much appreciated.
