Cannot login to Home sharing on AppleTV

I am trying to get an AppleTV connected to home sharing and it keeps telling me my Apple ID is incorrect. I only have one Apple ID and I am connected to iTunes and iCloud on this Apple TV. Not sure why it won't let me log in to Homesharing. Anyone have a suggestion? On latest TVOS.

After generating the six digit code sign in again using <password><code> where you previously used <password>. See also Get a verification code and sign in with two-factor authentication - Apple Support.

At some point during the setup process you provide or confirm your Apple ID email address in one screen, then in the next screen you provide the password. If two factor authentication is enabled and the device/software is recent enough your device provides a two factor code and you'll also get a window to enter it on the device you're trying to access. Instead of entering the password at the first opportunity try the steps in Get a verification code and sign in with two-factor authentication - Apple Support and then enter <password><code> where you would normally enter <password>. This may work around whatever issue is stopping the normal method from working.

While looking at the Apple support page I found another thread describing the exact same issue as mine from several other users. Once I remembered that I had a second ATV 3rd gen, I swapped it for the one I could not get to log on and it is working fine. There is something broken with the 6-digit code as it is not matching up with the Apple ID. Apple probably needs to look into it. My advice for now is to anyone with an ATV 3rd gen device is do not log out of Home Sharing. If you do, you are pretty much out of luck until Apple fixes the issue.


Appreciate your suggestions though and hope Apple looks into this so they can help others with the same problem.

Some additional information. I can log in to iCloud with my Apple ID. I can log in to iTunes with my Apple ID. When I select Computers and attempt to turn on Homesharing I am asked if I want to use my Apple ID. Selecting yes then prompts me to enter a 6-digit number that appears on my iPhone. Every time I enter the number I get the message:

Unable to Sign In

Either cannot find Apple ID or password is incorrect.


Is the home share password the same as the Apple ID password?

I got a verification code using my iPhone and tried appending that to the password but still not working. This is an AppleTV 3rd Gen. I have already tried restoring and setting up as a new device. Just cannot get past the homesharing login. I am using the ATV as my music input device to my home audio system. I may have to disable two-factor authentication to get this thing to log on and not sure how best to go about that.
