Occasionally, I’’ll check for OSWatch updates for my Series 2 using the Watch App and always get the message ‘Software is up to date. vers 4.3.2’ Which was fine, until I discovered that not only is there a 5 there’s even a 6.
As I never get an update notification on the Watch app how do I install version 5 (or 6)?

watchOS 5 requires iPhone 5s or later with iOS 12 or later.

Good idea. the new Watch Series 5 will blow your Series 0 away (speed, capacity, screen size, water resistance, ....)
A Series 3 is still better than the Series 0 you have.😀

Oh, I’d love a 5. I’ll probably have to settle for one of the 3s or 4s that people are selling on eBay to fund their new 5.
TBH I mainly use mine for paying for coffee at Starbucks :-)

When googling my problem I found discussions of people using 5 on their Series 2. So shouldn’t I at least be able to upgrade to 5?
You need to update the Watch using a paired iPhone.
If you have Watch Series 0 you cannot update past watchOS 4.3.2
