battery drain iphone 6s 13.1.2

all I am doing at moment is charging my battery since the numerous updates of ios 13. If I never touched my phone the battery is phone, but in the real world I use twitter etc, check emails and text . I need to know what apps are doing this. I have a battery health of 86%. This is not funny now. I have better things to do than charge my phone all the time.

OK so I (erroneously) upgraded to 13.1.2 and I STILL have a battery issue with my Iphone SE. What I find is that if I use maps or some other application the phone battery level drops incredibly fast (minutes) to about 10%. The phone then enters 'low power mode'.

If I de-power the phone and reboot it then reports ~80% or some similar number. My phone was fine on the 12.x IOS so this is definitely a bug.

Apple, please sort this out. You are making your products less and less attractive and you are going to lose customers unless this is fixed. It is obviously a software BUG since this does not happen on IOS 12.x.

@electrosim2001, I don't think it's just the battery level indicator. The other day I was charging my phone, I had not been using much all day. I unplugged it at 80% to make a few phone calls. Within 5 minutes the phone just went dead in the middle of a call. I used to be able to go for 2 days without charging the phone with minimal battery drain and it never used to just die on me. There is definitely something wrong with the ios and these older phones.

My battery drain problems still persists months later, and a few updates later.

I left my phone unplugged from charger at 49% last night (had only one outlet and needed to charge my powerbank) and woke up to a dead phone. This is just an illustration of what battery life I've been getting from my 6S plus in the past few months.

No matter how little I use it the battery will drain like mad, even if I put it in Flight mode. I carry a powerbank and charging cables everywhere. Battery health at 88%. As I type this the phone is hot as lava.

As a relatively newcomer to IPhones, (a couple of years), my concerns are there is definitely a problem for a lot of people moving to IOS 13, secondly there is no admission and promise to fix from Apple, they seem in denial!

I have tried all the tips I can find, including a "new phone" restore, and stopping anything that could drain the battery, including airplane mode going to bed. It has improved from awful to not good with hours of trying.

My old phone which is now 6 years old, still can still go days in standby.

The reviews and adverts I have read for my IPhone 7, state such things as listening to music and standby time, and my phone, which dropped from 88% to 78% health after the update, then back to 82% following a restore, drops typically 30-35% overnight, and needs charging twice a day, used or not.

Needless to say I would not buy an IPhone again when the one I have needs a battery replacement, would rather put the £49 towards a new phone.

Throw another affects phone into the pile. I love my 6s. Noting wrong with it AT ALL. Got my battery replaced just over a year ago. No issues after that...until I had to upgrade to 13.x ("mysteriously" I couldn't access the Apple Store after staying with 12.x, go figure...). This INFURIATES me to no end, as I agree this is intentional obsolescence. Apple refuses to admit there's an issue and just wants everyone to pay hundreds of dollars to upgrade. End of story.

Here's something I ran across while seeking answers to problems I have had (pretty much just as described by the other posts here. anyway, here's the link with some information - originally posted back in October 2019, just about the time I started experiencing problems with the upgrade to IOS 13.x

I decided that when the next software update came along I would use iTunes rather than a direct WiFi to phone to see whether this might make any difference to my phone’s battery staying power.

( I wonder whether all of us who have found a problem with their iPhones’ batteries have been using the WiFi method of software updating? )

Anyway I updated my IOS to the latest 13 iteration yesterday. I did have a problem when I got error code 2003 ( check cable and/or USB port )

I changed cable and then things were OK but did a full restore.

Yesterday the phone got quite warm as it did it’s housekeeping.

But now it’s settled down and the charge seems to be holding much better.

I’ll report back in a few days time.

After trying out the latest update, and after trying many tips and fixes, I was still suffering battery drain, so I ordered a new phone, not an iPhone as I previously said was my intention if I changed my phone.

As I posted, I have only been with Apple phones a few years, but have been using mobiles since they first came out, (a large two piece unit, a massive battery in one, with a phone on a lead to it :o), and must say I have never before had a phone relegated to no longer fit for purpose by a manufacturer who denies an update has caused the problem. The fact that my iPhone 7 went from losing just a few percent overnight on standby, to 40% immediately and thereafter after the update to ios 13, which seemingly indicated I needed a new battery or I was misusing it in some way by Apple and its staff.

Either way, I have found my fix, and wish you all success in getting Apple to fix what they have caused, and I would hope provide a cheap battery replacement to all those who have needed to charge their phones 2 or 3 times a day, thereby reducing the life of the battery.

I will wait a while to see if a fix does come out before I put my iPhone on Ebay, as I would not like to sell it to anyone as it is.

I always wait to do an update until well after the update has been proven in the field. In my iPhone 6s situation, I had traveled out of country and upon return my iPhone 6s would not connect to Sprint Network. This had happened once before in October, but Sprint support was able to correct the issue when I called in using WiFi calling. Not in December...so I went into the store. They changed the SIM card...didn't work...they then suggested update iOS via wifi...we did, and the phone was able to connect to Sprint Network again. I thought my problems were solved....little did I know, they were just getting started.

I also updated my iPad Pro 10.5 inch. This is where I first noted that iOS 13 was a bad "apple". My iPad could sit for DAYS without any drain...now, it might make it a single day and that's WITHOUT ANY USE AT ALL.....IN AIRPLANE MODE....with Bluetooth and Wifi OFF.

On both devices, all my apps are updated with the exception of one because I need to keep in version sync with my laptop.

Suffice to say, All the posts, and replies I have read are EXACTLY the same issue I am experiencing. Trips to the Apple Store, very few apps on the device, kill all the apps and still see drainage in a matter of minutes, go to the gym at 6:30 with 100% and by the time I'm done it's at 26% and I'm using the same streaming app I used before.

Last night, I took the same action as I have seen others take.....Ordered a new device (Not an Apple Device)….this pains me because I bought into the watch and the tablet and the laptop (although in my laptop world I still use both Mac OS and Windows 10). The ecosystem is great when it all works...but if one device suffers, the whole thing suffers....and it just so happens that the one device I rely on the most on a day to day basis is the PHONE....text messages, calls and quick web searches....not to mention the time I spent shopping for a new phone yesterday :-)

I did buy a used Android device and will keep my 6s in case Apple does come up with a fix....MAYBE, I will come back to iOS world.....because I do like iMessage….and easy to manage music.....but outside of those to functions, the things I use my phone for that earn me a living are a priority. Hard to make a living when you are on the road and your device dies after a couple of hours of LOW USE.

Yes, there very many like us, and the sad thing is Apple do not seem to listen, and all you get is "you need a new battery", or you need to stop using anything that uses your battery. I am of the opinion the update rendered my iPhone 7 useless, and having to charge it so often reduces battery life. My iPhone is still in the family, so if they do eventually fix it, a member of my family will be happy.

I formed a bad opinion of Apple reading this forum and the responses, but I have to admit, having talked to Apple support, the guy I spoke to was really a great guy, and a good advocate for Apple, and went out of his way to help, but you cannot blame him for a really awful development process, which needs to change. Not being able to revert to an earlier level of IOS just for a start.

I should have added in my post earlier today that when I took my iPad into the Genius bar, the folks there were very helpful and empathetic. The approach we took on the iPad was to basically WIPE IT and start from ground zero.

Nothing changed except all the apps that I wasn't using all that frequently never got added back on. Including my work Outlook. I find no point in trying to use it as a work device since it just dies mid way through the day on heavy usage.

Feb 6, 2020 6:36 PM in response to linkdude

Well I’m pretty sure that there’s nothing wrong with my phone’s battery or that is really draining fast ( although it reports that it is )

( It also reports ultra fast charging. )

Don’t know whether it’s a deliberate sprinkling of devil dust into our very serviceable 6 and 6s phone ( the one’s with a really decent processor and a useful and quite desirable headphone jack )

I wonder how many 6/6s owners who were hanging on to their phones have, since IOS ( appropriately numbered ) 13, have decided to upgrade to a newer ( headphone jack-less ) shinier model?

Feb 7, 2020 2:34 AM in response to electrosim2001

There are two aspect to the problems outlined in this thread, battery life and battery health. The health aspect, the capacity and degeneration of the battery condition, I believe, (for technical reasons), is a very poorly calculated guestimate, which Apple should address as it upsets a lot of people. (Ignore it!)

The amount of time and usage it takes to go from full to empty, which, judging by numerous opinions all over the internet, altered negatively coincident with updating to 13 plus plus, is without doubt due to bugs in the IOS. The fall off in battery life varies from acceptable, to rendering the phone not fit for purpose, and though many say the problems should be expected with with new releases, these updates were not beta's, they were official releases, and Apple have not accepted the battery drain and health issues as bugs, and as a result, people have decided to move on, but some, not continue with Apple phones.

I spent my life in electronics, including writing and debugging software and firmware in computers, and if we had produced for release an update as buggy as IOS 13 was, I would have expected consequences. I feel sorry for support engineers who have to cope with failures by the development department, and face customers who rightly feel taken for granted.

Feb 10, 2020 9:02 AM in response to warpbrained86

I wouldn't waste your money or time on a new battery as long as the battery health is above 86%, which is what Apple deems to be the threshold for replacement.

My first 6s was a basket case with iOS 11, 12, and 13. Apple succumbed to my demands and gave me a brand new replacement 6s (this was back in October, 2019). I had them check the serial number for manufacture date and it is one of the last batches produced before production ended.

Even with a new phone and light-moderate usage I don't get a day out of my battery (12-14 hours), including the fact I have Background App Refresh disabled. I upgraded to 13.3.1 and it got even worse. However the battery degradation with 13.3.1 isn't isolated to the older phones, it's affecting the newer phones too, like the X line and the 11's. Apple got so many complaints they shut down the support page for it. They have a real mess on their hands and absolutely will not take any accountability for it. What is suspect is right before I went to 13.3.1 my battery health had already dropped to 98%, for a phone that's a few months old. That's how damaging iOS 13 is. When I did the upgrade to 13.3.1 the battery health went back to showing 100%. So they definitely made some changes, for the worse.

History tells us they'll have to do a patch for it, but until then I rolled back to 13.3 while the signing was still open. If they don't fix it then I'm saying bye-bye to my iPhone, will completely discount the idea of getting a newer 11 or the projected SE2, and will be getting a Pixel 4.

"As of now, Apple's Support page related to the iOS 13.3.1 battery drain problem is temporarily down. The page is being updated and will be up and running “shortly,” the company said. Apple's findings, fixes and comments about the matter remains to be seen at a later, undetermined time."
