Sometimes when iOS 13 emails come in they will not show up in the inbox

I am having an issue with my company email on my iPhone 11. Sometimes when emails come in they will not show up in the inbox but will show up when I go back and click on All Mail. Anyone else having this issue?

I posted earlier about these issues. Just for the **** of it, I decided to completely delete the native mail app and then re-install it. So far all of the issues seem to be resolved. Here’s what I did (I use Office 365 / Exchange):

  1. Go to Settings > Passwords & Accounts
  2. Select “Exchange”
  3. Turn the “switch” for Mail to “off”
  4. Delete the native iOS Mail app
  5. Close all apps and do a hard reset
  6. When your phone comes back up, go to the App Store and re-download the native Mail app
  7. Go back to Settings > Passwords & Accounts > Exchange and turn back on the switch next to “Mail” (you shouldn’t have to re-enter any credentials because your Exchange account itself was never removed)
  8. Go to Settings > Mail and Settings > Notifications > Mail and re set the various settings the way you like and that you had them before.

Been several hours and this is working great so far. I hope it continues to work and that it works for others out there.

Good luck!

It’s been fixed for me since updating to iOS 13.3 on my iPhone 6s.

“All Inboxes” now updates in real-time for me. All of my gmail accounts and exchange.

I didn’t have to delete any accounts or do anything crazy. As soon as the upgrade was done it was all fixed.

Hope it gets fixed soon for everyone else still having this problem.

Apple support team doesn’t read forums... Discussions are only for end users.

Scroll up and see the work around with enabling Complete Threads. It worked for me on 13.2 and Mail app is back to normal functioning in my case.

It is a bug in iOS and we all know that. Phone and chat support engineers are not there to debug and reproduce end user experience. They simply create tickets for QA teams. It takes them months to go through reported tickets. If QA can’t reproduce incident behavior, devs won’t work on it.

Nearly all of my mail issues seem to be resolved in 13.3. I’ve been using it about a week now so I am comfortable that they are fixed. I’m not having the problem with the up/down arrows mentioned just above this morning. That works perfectly on my phone now. It worked in bot beta 2 and beta 3. I’m using Exchange for mail.

Only issue I see is that clicking on a temporary banner pop up for a new message doesn’t open THAT message....it opens the Mail app. I can’t remember what it did in iOS 12. Clicking new mail notifications on the lock screen DOES take you directly the correct message now.

You are correct - this issue is not fixed in the iOS 13.3 update and it’s extremely frustrating - but I found an interesting issue/bug. When I unpaired my Apple Watch (was going to do a restore from scratch on my iPhone) Mail miraculously started working perfectly again. Mails pushed immediately. Re-paired the watch - problems. I have a feeling it’s how the phone and watch are interacting with regards to notifications or do-not disturb. I have no clue - but I know the phone was pushing emails perfectly after disconnecting Apple Watch.

This is happening to me, too, with all of my email accounts, not just Exchange.

The problem is the All Inboxes page does not refresh in real time in iOS 13.

When the badge number increases on the Mail icon on the home screen, I tap the mail app and no new emails display.

To get the new emails to display I have to select Mailboxes > All Inboxes. New emails then appear.

This is a bug, Apple. Please fix ASAP.

When checking my emails on my PC (with Outlook) and also when using webmail I discovered there was an email missing from the Inbox of my iPhone (running IOS 13). When I did a search on my iPhone in Current Mailbox, it did not find the email. However, when I did a search specifying All Mailboxes it found it and said it was in Inbox! I then moved it to Inbox, and hey presto it was in my Inbox and has remained there ever since! Do others have this problem? Any ideas?

I have some good news folks....

The iOS 13.3 Public Beta 2 is available today. I normally never install a beta, but I figured, since the current "final" release of iOS 13 is basically beta software, why not go ahead and try 13.3 beta?

Upon installing it, and testing the Mail app, I immediately noticed that a few of the problems I and others have been experiencing appear to be resolved.

Specifically the following:

  • Reading an E-mail now appears to mark that E-mail as read.....consistently.
  • The new E-mails in my inbox now appear to consistently match what the badge indicator shows.
  • I don't have to manually refresh (screen pulldown) to get new messages.
  • I don't have to (intermittently) switch out of my Inbox and then back into it to get new messages.
  • When I read an E-mail, I see the little blue dot at the upper left disappear (indicating it is now read) almost immediately
  • After reading an E-mail, if I delete it and it goes to the next unread E-mail, that E-mail now becomes marked as "read" on its own. Previously it would remain marked "unread" until I manually marked it read.

The above is all syncing to my Office 365 hosted Exchange server. That's the only mail account I use.

I am not going to try to win the contest of being the first guy on the thread to report "THIS IS FIXED!!" Because I remain skeptical until I have worked with it longer...and others have also worked with it. However I am optimistic that at least some of the most annoying issues appear to be fixed.

Regardless, you may want to install the public beta for one reason alone: when you are on a public beta, you are provided with a really good portal through which you are able to report bugs DIRECTLY to Apple engineers. They will create tickets. If you continue to see issues with Mail (or anything else) you can go right onto the portal and report it. You don't have to try to create a case with support and deal with a bunch of people who really can't help you. So if you are serious about getting Mail issues resolved, download the beta and report any bugs that are still present.

I will post again after a day or two using 13.3 Public Beta 2 and let everyone know if I am still having any of the other issues.

See my post above about 13.3 Public Beta 2. Most, if not all of the issues reported in this thread are resolved in that release. I've been using it for several days now. Of course none of these fixes are discussed in the public beta release notes either. Also, I will add that I have not noticed NEW problems with anything else after installing 13.3 public beta. So if you want to resolve these issues right now, try the beta. Also, as mentioned above, if you are on the beta, you can report bugs directly to engineering.
