2017 256GB Macbook Air, 208GB free. 128GB iPhone 11, 30GB free. Won't back up on iTunes, says "not enough space". Doesn't make much sense to me, as there is more space available on the computer than the iPhone can even hold, plus some. I've moved everything possible to an external hard drive I can't really clear any more off the internal hard drive.

If I'm understanding correctly, you are having some trouble with performing an iTunes backup because of an error "not enough space"
With your iPhone connected, check to make sure that "This computer" is selected instead of "iCloud" in the Backups panel.
