Are you able to edit the size of the audio icon? Like make it small enough to fit in an average sized text box in a Pages/Numbers style spreadsheet doc...Or is it possible to make it so that when you click on certain text an audio sample would play?...if that makes any sense

There is no scaling of the audio icon Pages v8.2. A single click of the audio icon will either play or cease play.
You will find rather quickly that the only recipients of Pages or Numbers documents containing audio will be other Apple users with compatible versions of the applications installed. Exports to PDF, Word, and ePub formats will be disappointing for sharing with non-Apple users.
