I muted my macbook air last night. And today I have no sound output at all. can't unmute it manually, from system preferences
Try resetting NVRAM and/or the SMC.

Plug something into the headphone jack a few times in & out.
To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...
Open System Preferences>Users & Groups, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.
Does it work in the new account?
nope
it still isn't working
It didn't solve the problem. I even reinstalled the OS and still not working.
