Charging and listening to music simultaneously

Hi... I’m having an issue with listening to music and charging the phone simultaneously. My car doesn’t have Bluetooth and in order to listen to music I had to get the additional jack. But now I can’t charge it whilst listening! This is very crippling especially since I like listening to podcasts on my way into work! Does anyone have a solution? Who’s bright idea was this anyway to make it one port. It’s driving me bananas.
