Is it safe to archive Final Cut Pro X libraries as a zip file?
We have many terabytes of Final Cut Pro X libraries that we need to move to cloud storage like Dropbox and/or Amazon AWS. I have not found any articles that discuss the long-term effects of storing zipped libraries on the cloud. Our concern is that they may corrupt over time and prevent us from opening the library. Normally as a last ditch effort with a corrupted library, we can always show package contents and extract the original media and rebuild the library and projects from scratch. A zipped library would lock us out completely. For Amazon AWS, it is a nightmare uploading unzipped Final Cut Pro X libraries because when you download it, the folder structure is not preserved and we need to manually alter the library before Final Cut Pro X can recognize it. In Dropbox, I've been successful to upload a test batch of zipped libraries but I encountered one that failed to upload which has raised this concern. Due to the complex nature of a library, is it safe to zip it? Has anyone successfully stored zipped libraries and opened them after a few years of cloud storage? Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
