am sitting in London/UK in my garden and just checked the local weather and this pops up
how is that possible

Notice the location arrow (next to the time displayed in the upper left corner) appears in your second screenshot showing London but is absent in your first screenshot showing an incorrect location.
Follow Saifan Pilot’s recommendation, or for an even speedier response (at the price of battery life), some weather apps allow you to choose “always” instead of “while using the app”.
