i use find my friends with my wife and kids so we can make sure the kids make it home ok when we are at work. Just took the new update and now the app is no longer on my phone, when I tried to download it again from the App Store it says “this app requires specific features not available ok this device”
any ideas what’s happened or how to get around it???

No it does not. "Find My" merged Find My iPhone and Find My Friends. It does NOT cost anything.

In the same position where Find My iPhone icon was in iOS 12
or in Extras folder (or a different folder)
or in Settings>[your name]

New find my friends is a backward step. Satellite view is worse after update and the London Eye no longer rotates. Reinstate as per previous.
