ipad update, create pdf option missing in safari

Why do they do things like this? I just updated my iPad software to version 13.1.2 and now the "Create PDF" button (something I use every day!) is missing from Safari. It was incredibly convenient to be able to zoom into a webpage and then print or save a pdf of what I was looking at. Now the only way I can print something is to print the whole page, which makes it too small to easily read. Anyone have a solution to this?

Here are two working solutions that I’ve posted in another discussion thread:

Solution 1

  • From the Share icon at top right, select Print to open the Print Options dialogue
  • Using two fingers, use an outward-pinch gesture to open a new view
  • From the Share icon at top right, select Save to Files - this will save a PDF of the page(s) to a path of your choice.

Solution 2

  • From the Share icon at top right, select the Markup option to open a “Markup” page
  • Tap Done at top left - then select the path you wish to save a PDF copy of the page (noting that you haven’t actually “marked-up” anything - unless you choose to do so).

Removal of the Create PDF option will be missed by many. Whilst its functionality can be replicated, the workarounds are far less intuitive than the simple option presented in iOS12.

A third option is to utilise the Shortcuts App - now indigenous to iPadOS/iOS13 - to create a Save to PDF option that will appear in the Share list.

... I’m back!!! For god’s sake there are tons of things missing — READ REMOVED —-

“Request Desktop version” of web page. The “Create PDF” would sometimes create only the first page unless you “Request a Desktop” version of whatever you are viewing.

Am I missing something or the Apple dev team suddenly gone nuts.

i do not have my iPad on hand (too bulky) it’s on my iPhone that these terribly missing functions are MOSTLY USED. A “screen shot” is not a PDF unless I am totally mistaken. Common Apple bring those back, the alternatives DO NOT CUT IT AT ALL. And I strongly believe there are unimaginable number of your dedicated fans who are/will miss those functionalities as well! ...😂😂 Nuff said, off my soapbox for now!

It’s utterly pointless that you complain to us here.

If you wish to complain to Apple (or, preferably, constructively appeal to them), then the mechanism to do so is the Apple Feedback channel.

https://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

Have you tried the Shortcut suggestion that I recommended? It will completely replicate the function that you so obviously miss.

I added 1 extra step to Solution 2 provided by @LotusPilot and i was then able to essentially ‘create pdf’

➡️ From the Share icon at top right, select option. Change from Automatic to PDF, click back then follow Solution 2 as suggested by LotusPilot

But that only saves what’s on the screen - meaning you can lose half of the page. bring back the former option, it was so easy to use.

For example, a recipe may only show part of the page on the screen, and I have to scroll down to read the rest. if I save as a pdf I can keep it all to read again, offline, (not everybody has constant wi-if or 3G coverage!) or print it out (ever tried scrolling on an iPad with floury hands?)

but a screenshot involves severa pages, so not as easy to use - so I saved this page and it only kept the top bit, not all of it

I always create PDF from safari and directly share via Whatsapp BUT cant anymore

The PDF actually hide inside the little ‘options’ but still unable share via WhatsApp. So what’s the point?

Or the PDF created and allowed to save in google drive but an incomplete page of PDF. Also what’s the point?

This is unacceptable and no way i can understand the purpose of turning it so badly instead if improving.

is Apple still in the midst of upgrading?

Safari has A lot more things to fix

I also totally agree. I have save receipts to turn in to a financial institution, and could pull up any website, in the Safari 12, and create a PDF (all receipts, for Amazon, WalMart etc, are one long page 2 or more screenshots),

I can find no “full page option” in a screenshot, and so I will have to find a different browser now, that has a, “create a pdf” button, like in Safari 12.

Like “mpoplar”, and, “happyclem”, have pointed out & I agree, lots of different features have been taken out, and replaced with worthlessness options.

Such as in 13, the whole top row are people you message the most, instead of a simple, green message button, which is also on the next row.

All kinds of wasted space, many lost features, that were not, moved, but X’ed out completely.

I too am scrambling, to find a different option now.

It used to be simple, organized, and effective. It is now for teenagers, wasting time instagramming, and pics of their breakfast for FB...

I might buy a cheap used iPhone and put version 12 on, just to be able to pdf my receipts. I am very unhappy with 13,1.2 also, and not just the topic of this discussion

No, the ability to copy a PDF file from a Safari web page to Apple Books is still very much alive and well in iPadOS...

From your “PDF” web page, simply tap the Safari share icon at top right of the screen - and from the available App actions (i.e., the second horizontal row of icons) swipe across to Copy to Books (its an orange icon) and tap. You should note that the available actions are context sensitive, so the Copy to Books action will only be available when relevant.

Your saved PDF can be found within your Apple Books Library tab - although you may need to select the appropriate Collection (at top left of the Library page).

So, to coin a phrase - it ain't broke, it doesn’t need fixing 🙂

I hope you find this clarification helpful.

Nope.

I have this discussions page open in Safari. When I hit the ‘share’ icon (box with up-arrow) it used to display options for “save as pdf” and “save to IBooks”, now it doesn’t. The “save to iBooks” used to convert the page to PDF and save it all in one go.

Very useful, very convenient and obvious and simple to use.

What has been gained by changing it?
